Once we get them all posted in preparation for our exhibition and then the Silent Auction for Hunger Relief we'll put them up for all to see.

Here's the deal

This is Wingtip Press' sixth year of hosting our Leftovers print exchange. It started when we were cleaning out our flatfiles years ago and wondering what to do with all those little scraps of paper that were jamming up the drawers. We figured we weren't the only one with such delicious problems, so we invited a few printmaking pals to create prints from their scraps. Since then we've exhibited prints around the world, made new friends and expanded our collection of extraordinary prints.

All the details are in the previous post, so give us a shout - with an email to info@wingtippress.com to reserve a place at the table.

Leftovers Six, 6, VI, Yes SIX!

We got a bit behind in 2015. We moved - and we're planning another move one by the end of 2015. But that's not stopping us from sending out the call for Leftovers VI.  (We know - finally, right?) And we've got some new ideas about how you can get the most bang from your press.  In the past, Wingtip Press has been very successful in arranging multiple international exhibitions for your prints and we will always make sure that happens. We've also been able to secure the front page of a weekly arts publication featuring a handful of each year's submissions. But it's been at the expense of not having those prints available for either our exhibitions or auction for hunger relief - and our amazing auction has been the one to suffer.  We've already arranged to get the cover again this year, and we're also negotiating for a story in some regional publications and we don't want our exhibitions, our exchange - or our auction to suffer. So, we've decided to suggest an alternative to the 14 prints: If you're interested in being considered for the various publications we are hoping to be featured in, we hope you will consider adding an additional print to make a total of 15 prints for the  Leftovers VI exchange.  If your print is selected, we promise to secure copies of the publications for you and feature them on our website and this blog.

We've always left the subject matter up to you and it is certainly your decision.  We will say that our auction raises funds and consciousness about food safety and accessibility, so images that relate to the theme of food, farming, production, distribution, hunger, wholesomeness, food safety, local farmers markets, ingredients, dining or even your favorite kitchen utensil have a soft spot in our hearts. But, PLEASE, express yourself in whatever way you choose. We have a blast with all of this - from sending out the call, to relishing our trips to the mailbox, to carefully packaging each participants prints,  to exhibiting them and attaching the stamps that take them to you and around the world and back again.

So, here's the scoop!

We will send you the submission form when you send us your RSVP!

Boun appetito!

Ohmygosh!

Has it really been since March that we posted?  Yikes, and oops. I believe that's right. Well, here in a nutshell is an update. The Leftovers V  prints have already travelled to Applestick Contemporary Gallery in Balnarring, Australia and to Wharepuke Gallery in New Zealand.  The truth being: the Southern Hemisphere has had a much better chance of seeing all these tasty morsels than you've had.

And, sadly, that's because we've bitten off more that we can chew this year.  We definitely plan to get the prints up on this site. But, meanwhile, if you're interested, head on over to Wingtip's facebook page and you'll get a taste of what we're talking about.  And just to sweeten our delinquency, here's a delicious, delectable print by Marsha Shaw.  Mmmmmmmmm.

Now head on over to Wingtip's  facebook page and do a little scrolling!

Gratitude

This is a rather different kind of Leftover. It's a bucket of Trader Joe's peanut butter cups that is sitting on my hospital tray. I've been  in the hospital here in Boiz-wah for nearly two weeks and have a few more days before discharge,  I had a serious car accident, totaled my 1998 Honda Civic and have broken my hip and pelvis and won't be walking for at least 60 days and then will still need assistance until my muscles in my left leg develop more strength.

Ugh! But I hear many Leftovers V prints have arrived and I expect to have them all in by April 15.  I
can't wait to get back in my studio as one of my great pleasures is opening each package that arrives.
We've got an exhibition scheduled for August at Applestick Contemporary Art in Balnarring, Australia and on to Atelier 6000 in Bend, Oregon in October and of course, we will exhibit them at Wingtip Press, too!

The title of this entry is GRATITUDE, I have learned a lot about gratitude the last few weeks and extend my gratitude to all of you for supporting Leftovers!

Faster than the speed of lightening

Or maybe faster than lightening. Lickity split! Leftovers have already arrived on our doorstep. The first edition all the way from Wales! And you can get a peek at them here on Melanie Ezra's blog - which you should be following anyway!

But don't let that deter you. We have until April 15.  So relax, you've got plenty of time!

We ought to be in pictures

And we are! We've been so lucky with good press the last few days. Our major newspaper, the Idaho Statesman wrote an article about our auction and included a photo of the print by Kam Kelley of Boise.
And, they called Wingtip Press one of the coolest places in downtown Boise.  And if that wasn't enough, we got the cover of the Boise Weekly today. The Weekly is our Arts magazine and they feature local artist's work on the cover each week.  They had a hard time just picking one and ended up with a composite of 8 prints.  Here it is! And congratulations to Meredith Buschow of Texas, Mary Donato of Boise, Idaho, Sandy Craig of Wales, Jennifer Mecham of Carey, Idaho, Alex Wonder of Boise, Idaho, Beth Layton of Boise, Idaho, Lisa Flowers Ross of Boise, Idaho and Kyoko Imazu of Australia!

You make us look good!

Five Years!

It was the day after Thanksgiving in 2009 when we were cleaning out the flatfiles, finding all those remnants of beautiful paper when the idea and title for Leftovers came to mind. The day after Thanksgiving is pretty much always about the leftovers.  In fact, NPR did two stories today about what to do with all those luscious tidbits and morsels from the traditional Thanksgiving feast. So, it seems appropriate that  today, Black Friday - the day invented by retailers to seduce consumers to their stores with "this day only" discounts - we decided to get out of the studio (and kitchen) and head downtown to Macy's. But not for Black Friday shopping. Oh no.  We gathered a crew of local leftover printmakers together for installing the exhibition set of Leftovers IV in the Macy's windows so all those Black Friday shoppers can see what's up at Wingtip Press. We're hoping they'll be enticed to stop by next week to participate in our Silent Auction for Hunger Relief.

Food

Found this image from a blogpost a few years back and it seems so appropriate to share, especially for all of us US of A Leftover Lovers as we move into what's known as our Thanksgiving four day week-end.  We're all busy buying the groceries and pulling out the old family recipes with the relic "scratch and sniff" spatters of batter or oil or fingerprints stuck to them, hoping that we can re-create a splendid memory of family and thankfulness while our electronic devices are summoning, and the onceinalifetime Black Friday deals or TGIThanksgiving sales beckon.

So this simple poster or WWII propaganda reminds of what consumerism COULD be all about.

They had the right idea back then.

Auction Time

We'll be warming up the Leftovers soon to benefit the Hunger Relief Task Force.  And, we'll be announcing the call for Leftovers V in early December.
